Israel Kills 5 in Lebanon Strikes, Targets Over 70 Hezbollah Sites

(MENAFN) The Israeli military reported Saturday that it had eliminated several Hezbollah operatives and destroyed more than 70 infrastructure targets across southern Lebanon within a single 24-hour window, even as a declared ceasefire continues to be openly disregarded.

According to an Israeli military statement, the demolished sites included buildings allegedly serving as launchpads for attacks against Israeli troops and communities in northern Israel. Hezbollah had not issued any immediate response to the Israeli claims.

The strikes exacted a deadly toll on Lebanese civilians. At least five people were killed in the Israeli army's continued aerial bombardment of southern Lebanon on Saturday, Lebanese media reported. The Lebanese army separately confirmed that one of its soldiers sustained serious injuries in a drone strike in the same region.

The military toll on Lebanon's national forces has mounted significantly. Since March 2026, Israeli operations have killed 30 Lebanese soldiers and left several others wounded across a series of separate incidents, according to the Lebanese military.

Israel's broader offensive against Lebanon, launched on March 2, has been catastrophic in scale — claiming more than 3,700 lives, injuring upward of 11,600 others, and forcing over one million people from their homes.

A ceasefire brokered on April 17 has done little to halt the violence. Tel Aviv has pressed forward with daily shelling campaigns and the systematic demolition of homes across dozens of Lebanese villages, in what critics describe as a wholesale disregard for the truce agreement.

The Israeli army also disclosed Saturday that one of its drones came down in southern Lebanon, though the incident resulted in no casualties among its personnel.
