Accidental Shooting Kills French Soldier During Lebanon Mission
Private First Class Florian Gillet had been deployed to Lebanon as part of an operational partnership mission aimed at supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces. General Pierre Schill, chief of staff of the French Army, broke the news in a social media announcement, identifying the fallen soldier by name.
According to Schill, Gillet was accidentally shot during preparations for a training exercise, indicating the incident did not involve hostile fire. French military authorities have yet to release further details regarding the precise circumstances surrounding the shooting.
France maintains a longstanding military presence in Lebanon, primarily through its contributions to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and bilateral defense cooperation programs with the Lebanese Armed Forces.
