IRGC Commander Urges Israeli Withdrawal from Lebanon
Qaani declared that “support for the resistance movement in Lebanon was a duty for all Muslims, and that removing Israel from the region was an achievable objective,” according to a news agency. He further stressed, “The essence of the resistance's demands is the withdrawal of the occupying regime (Israel) to the positions it held before the start of the 40-day war.” He assured Lebanese fighters that their “steadfast resistance” would soon yield results.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military announced Thursday that it would continue its offensive in southern Lebanon despite a trilateral declaration in Washington the previous day announcing a ceasefire agreement. Israel currently occupies parts of southern Lebanon, some dating back decades and others seized during the 2023–2024 conflict.
During the ongoing campaign, Israeli forces penetrated more than 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory, marking the deepest advance since 2000. Since March 2, Israel has carried out a large-scale assault in Lebanon that has left over 3,500 people dead, more than 10,600 injured, and displaced upwards of 1 million individuals, according to official statistics.
Regional hostilities have intensified since late February, following US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran that killed more than 3,000 people.
