Israeli Airstrikes Hit Key Bridge in Southern Lebanon

(MENAFN) Israeli airstrikes on Thursday destroyed a vital bridge in southern Lebanon, reportedly severing one of the last remaining crossings connecting the region to the rest of the country, according to Lebanese media.

A news agency reported that Israeli warplanes carried out two consecutive strikes targeting the Qasmiyeh Bridge, fully demolishing it. The bridge links the Tyre area with the city of Sidon and is considered the final operational crossing in that corridor.

The report added that a drone strike had earlier hit the same vicinity before the aerial bombardment that ultimately destroyed the structure.

The Qasmiyeh Bridge is regarded as a strategic transport link in southern Lebanon, connecting western, central, and eastern areas and serving as a key route for civilians, vehicles, and goods.

It had previously been damaged in earlier Israeli strikes before being completely destroyed in the latest attack.

Israeli operations have continued across Lebanon following a cross-border attack by Hezbollah on March 2, despite a ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024.

Lebanese health authorities say the ongoing violence has killed more than 2,160 people, injured over 7,000 others, and displaced well over one million residents since March.
