Pakistan Army Chief Holds Talks with US Rubio in Munich

(MENAFN) Pakistan's military leadership engaged in high-stakes discussions with Washington's top diplomat on counterterrorism strategies and regional stability during the Munich Security Conference, the army announced Sunday.

Gen. Asim Munir, Pakistan's army chief, participated in the German summit from Feb. 12-14, where he held bilateral talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to a statement released by the military's media division.

The two officials addressed shared security concerns, examining global and regional threat dynamics alongside ongoing joint counterterrorism initiatives between Islamabad and Washington, the statement confirmed.

Munir's German engagements extended to multiple high-level meetings with Berlin officials, including Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, the German chancellor's Foreign Policy and Security Policy Advisor Gunter Sautter, and Chief of Defense Gen. Carsten Breuer.

These consultations concentrated on pressing security challenges, expanding bilateral defense partnerships, and advancing international stability through coordinated diplomatic channels at both bilateral and multilateral levels.

The Pakistani military leader also conducted separate meetings with Adm. Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, chief of the Joint Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces, and Gen. Rodolph Haykal, commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces.

Those discussions examined evolving global and regional security landscapes while exploring avenues to deepen bilateral defense cooperation frameworks.
