US Targets Hezbollah Gold Exchange with Sanctions

(MENAFN) The US Treasury Department on Tuesday announced sanctions against a Hezbollah-linked gold exchange company and an international procurement network, aiming to disrupt the group’s economic operations.

According to the Treasury, the measures target two key mechanisms Hezbollah uses to sustain its financial stability: generating revenue in coordination with Iran and exploiting Lebanon’s informal financial sector.

The sanctions specifically named Jood SARL, a gold exchange company operating under Hezbollah’s US-designated Al-Qard Al-Hassan, which converts the group’s gold reserves into funds that support its activities. The Treasury also targeted a Hezbollah-managed international procurement and commodities shipping network spanning the region, including Iran.

“Treasury will work to cut these terrorists off from the global financial system to give Lebanon a chance to be peaceful and prosperous again,” said Secretary Scott Bessent.

The sanctions block all property and interests in property of the designated entities within the US or under US control, including entities owned 50% or more by the sanctioned parties, which must also be reported to the Treasury.

Hezbollah has been designated a Specially Designated Global Terrorist since October 31, 2001, and a Foreign Terrorist Organization since October 8, 1997.
